Why I Embraced the Term Hybrid Athlete
Is it a Fad? — It’s How I’ve Trained My Whole Life
Quick Tip:
If you are struggling with wall ball depth work on hip and ankle mobility.
Ankle Mobility - Sit in a squat position holding onto a pole for balance (3-5mins everyday)
Hip Mobility - Pigeon Pose and Couch Stretch for hips (2mins each side everyday)
Coaches Corner:
When I first saw all the hype online about the hybrid athlete, I’ll be honest—I rolled my eyes. Another buzzword. Another fad from the influencers.
But the more I looked into it, the more I realised: this isn’t new. It’s just a modern name for the way many athletes have trained for decades—especially those of us who grew up playing team sports.
I played Australian Rules Football. We ran 10km+ every week, did sprint sessions, and lifted heavy in the gym. We didn’t call it Hyrbrid training back then, but that’s exactly what it was.
So I’ve embraced the term. And to be fair, I think it’s one of the best ways to train—especially for older athletes.
We need strength.
We need endurance.
And we need variety to keep the body engaged and the mind fresh.
